HOTEL SECURITY

A hotel has many peculiarities, not only for the quantity of personnel and guests that are in the hotel 24 hours a day, but also for the quantity of doors, stairs and corridors.

Now days the search for an establishment is more frequent. People search not only of good conditions of cleanliness, quality and comfort, but also safety.

Safety is an essential requisite for the guests of a hotel and is one of the principal reasons for which a guest chooses or not a hotel to stay in. A bad experience suffered by a guest, immediately after a safety problem that even turns out to be completely foreign to the hotel or chain, will provoke a negative perception in the guest that, undoubtedly will influence his or her future decisions and recommendations to other people in relation to that hotel or chain.

Next we offer you some useful advice to follow before and during your stay in a hotel:

SECURITY OF THE FACILITIES
Prevention of fires:
  • Detect the location of the fire extinguishers.
  • Read the instructive brochure of safety from your room. Learn how to report a fire. Read the notices for guests and the signs placed in the establishment in case of fire.
  • Make sure you know where the emergency exits are. Count the number of doors from your room up to the exit.

Communication and Prevention:
  • Verify the functioning of the communication system of your room periodically.
  • Keep the door of your room locked with the key in any circumstance. If you have visits, ask them to wait for you in the hotel lobby.

  • Use the safe box of the room to place your money and articles of value whenever you go out. If there is not a safe in the room, use the safe of the reception to place things of value (practically all the hotels have a safe box in the reception).
  • Never to place the "Cleaning room" sign because it is a perfect sign for possible thieves to know that there is nobody inside. The service of room or room service knows when a guest is out.
  • If the room is already arranged and you go out, place the "do not disturb" sign and leave the TV on, so that it seems that there is someone in the room. You can also close windows and curtains.
  • Warn someone of the time you are going to return if you have plans of being out too late.
  • If you are alone, do not go inside an elevator if you notice that a suspicious person is inside.
  • Lighting:
    • Verify the existence of an emergency system of illumination.
    • Verify the system of lighting in areas with major risks of thefts, armed robberies or crimes (for ex. Parking lot, service areas, pools, etc.).

SUSPICIOUS PERSONS

If a person arouses suspicion for his/her conduct, or for his/her questions (observing the movement of the establishment, not consuming any service, etc.), try to retain as much as possible his/her physiognomy, some of the belongings that this person carries at that moment, since it can be useful and important information in the future before a criminal act.
If this person leaves in a vehicle, try to visualize with whom he is living and offer special attention to the vehicle (number of badge, color, mark, etc.).

STAY IN A HOTEL WITH CHILDREN

  • When choosing hotels, be informed if it provides a program of activities for children and a service of nursery school.
  • Warn your son not play with the elevators, since many of them are still provided with doors that can extract hands or feet when being in movement.
  • If you have a baby, remember to request in advance the installation of a cradle in the room.
  • Verify that the field of displacement of the child has zones of risks of accident (as for example balconies, sockets, adornments in the room, etc.).
  • Check if the recreational zones are provided with protection in the swimming pools.
  • Verify if the establishment is provided with a service for medical emergencies. In case of not having one, quarrel which is the nearest medical establishment to the hotel.
  • Have extra care with the feeding and drink of the child, since a change can produce gastrointestinal disorders. Be provided with food and drinks of habitual consumption.

STAY IN A HOTEL WITH ANIMALS

  • Not all the establishments admit animals or are pet friendly. In those that do it is recommended to continue the following rules: Try that the animal does not bother the other guests of the establishment.
  • Always walk your pet with a leash.
  • Generally there are certain zones where animals are not allowed to enter (pool, restaurant, bar, etc.). Respect the norms of the establishment.
  • Establish the rest area of your pet in the room. Remember to take his blanket or bed.
Never leave your pet alone in the room. Remember that you will be responsible for any damages caused by your pet.
  • Generally the establishments are not provided with food for animals therefore; remember to take your pet's own food.
  • Consult at your arrival, as prevention, the location of a veterinarian and animal clinic.
